Owner-Membership Versus MembershipWhen an organization JOINS the UCSC, they become an owner-member. They own shares and have a voice in decisions that affect the Co-op. A Co-op is an enterprise that is jointly owned and democratically controlled by its members for their mutual benefit. This is different than when a person joins their community-centre gym. And, it is different than an organization having an annual membership in an association. They often have to purchase a "membership" every year if they want to continue being a member. This kind of "membership" does not provide the same involvement or decision-making opportunities. Once your organization is a Co-op member, there are no annual fees to stay a members and enjoy the benefits of being a part owner along with other like organizations.
